Compliance with environmental standards tested in The Hague
June 8, 2012 in by road, Environmental monitoring, News, The Netherlands
May 2012 – ARS T&TT tests whether vehicles in The Hague comply with environmental standards. A multi-year agreement has been signed by ARS-TT and the city authorities and testing started in 2011.
To reduce emissions of polluting substances, local authorities are legally obliged to meet environmental standards. ARS T&TT uses a camera system to test compliance. Vehicles are identified using number plate recognition and photo overviews. Data obtained from RDW, the Dutch government’s road transport agency, is used to establish whether a vehicle is in a category authorised to be in that part of the city. The data is used by the enforcement agencies.
